Flormar Makeup Review

I was recently introduced to a new cosmetic line in Ireland called “Flormar”.  The owner of The Cosmetic Outlet, Paul, told me all about the brand and kindly gave me a big bag of makeup to test and review (thanks Paul! 😉 ) I had never heard of them before but I’m always open to trying new cosmetics and I was excited to get testing!

Flormar is originally an Italian brand which produces their cosmetics in Turkey where they are very popular and have a big following.  They’ve been around for over 40 years and started out producing Nail polishes (which they’re very well known for in other countries) and then they expanded to a full range of cosmetics.  So, now to see if the products are any good….

Illuminating Primer Makeup Base

Flormar Primer

This foundation primer contains Acacia and Green Tea and creates a moisturising base for makeup.  It also smooths over any lines and brightens the skin creating a smooth even base which dries to a matte finish.  I tested this with various foundations throughout the week and it did a good job of making them last. I have combination skin so it didn’t necessarily stop shine from coming through but it hydrated the dry parts of my face really well.  This is definitely the best foundation primer for dry skinned girls.

Perfect Coverage Foundation

This is a rich cream foundation with a more full coverage which claims to last for 12 hours.  I tested it on myself and it is such a lovely consistancy and really does give a full flawless finish.  Also, once it’s set with powder, it lasts all day.  It’s quite heavy so if you’re not used to, or don’t like wearing lots of makeup this may not be for you.  Having said that, it’s very moisturising and doesn’t look cakey or settle in lines due to its cream formula so this would be lovely for going out or any makeup that requires a flawless finish like, for your wedding or for photography.  Great for dry skin but can also be used on oilier skin if well powdered. I’m going to get more of these for my kit as I really like them.  I never expected to find a pharmacy brand foundation that would be good enough for a professional makeup artist’s kit but this is definitely a must-have, I’m really impressed!

Perfect Coverage Liquid Concealer

Perf cov Concealer

This creamy concealer is perfect for use under the eyes and does a super job of covering under eye bags and darkness without highlighting any lines or wrinkles.  You can also use this to prime your eyelids and set with powder to give a perfect base for your eyeshadow.  I really liked this but found that it wasn’t really needed when used with the foundation as this gives good enough coverage by itself but you could use this with BB cream or a lighter foundation and it would cover any areas of concern perfectly.

Loose Powder

I’m in love with this powder!  It comes with a really cool little puff and you apply it after foundation to set everything into place. When I opened this, some of the powder puffed up in a fine haze that almost looked like smoke and that’s how I knew this was a good quality powder which has been really finely milled.  The finer the powder the less likely it is to settle into lines on your face and the more it gives a stunningly flawless finish.  You can see in the second pic above, it disappears to nothing on the skin on my hand and doesn’t cake (there’s also a pic of me wearing the full base on my face below).  Absolutely perfect in my opinion.  I also photographed it to see if it caused whiteness (flashback) on the face and it doesn’t so, yay! 🙂  It also made my makeup last all day and my oiliness didn’t come through at all!  This bad boy is going straight into my kit!!

Face & Body Bronzing Powder

Check out the size of this!!  It’s about the same size as a CD, so will last forever!  It’s quite similar to the IsaDora one that I reviewed before only it’s cheaper which is great.  This doesn’t mean it’s not as good though, it’s really fantastic actually.  It’s a matte bronzer that you can use on the face or body or for contouring which it is absolutely made for.  I love the big mirror in the lid as well.  It comes in other shades too with more shimmer to them if you prefer that.

Long Wearing Lipstick

I got two shades to try, L07 which is a pink shade and L02 which is a browny wine colour.  Both were extremely moisturising for a long lasting lipstick and applied more like a gloss than a lipstick.  They didn’t last all day and I had to top up a few times but when they wore off they left a stain of the colour there which was good.  I also loved how they didn’t accentuate any dryness on your lips.  There’s a huge range of colours which is great too.

Long Wearing Lipgloss

This is a light feeling lipgloss with 3D glitter that really shimmers.  The one I got was a bright pink and really sparkled.  It wasn’t thick or gloopy and felt like lipstick on my lips.  It also lasted for ages which was brilliant.

Max Lift Mascara

I also really liked this mascara, it has a nice consistancy, not too wet and gives good length to your lashes. Flormar claims Max Lift Mascara “creates perfectly separated eye lashes and creates a perfect look with volume but without any lumps” and I have to say it wasn’t clumpy at all and lasted well.  This is a nice everyday mascara.

Neon Colours Nail Enamel

These gorgeous nail enamels come in a wide range of colours & types and last really well.  Now, I’m not the worlds best nail painter but I gave this a bash using the two colours, a neon pink shade (N003) and a red shade (N010), both of which I loved.  As you can see they had a really high shine finish and they lasted very well – 3 days chip free – good result!

Overall View

I really like this makeup brand, you can see from their website that they have a huge range and the makeup really is of excellent quality.  All of the above cost around the €10 and under mark which is very reasonable so you can afford to get a few things in different colours.  These would be especially good for is someone who is starting out as a Makeup Artist and trying to build up their kit as they are affordable, they do a great job and you’d literally have everything covered as the range is huge.  For everyday wear they are great also, I really don’t know why I’d never heard of them before, but now that they are being stocked in The Cosmetic Outlet, I will be adding to my collection!

The only negative I’d say about Flormar is that the packaging is a bit cheap looking for some of the items.  I like the packaging on the lipsticks but the other stuff doesn’t appear very slick and the white font printed on the packaging just doesn’t look right.  That could turn you off looking twice at these and you’d never get to know how good the quality of the products actually is!  Image is everything, so sort it out Flormar!

Me wearing the full base of Foundation, Concealer & Powder & Contour as well as mascara, which looked flawless and lasted all day!

August Makeup & Beauty Favorites

Here are the beauty faves I’ve been loving and using regularly in August 🙂

Orifluido Beauty Elixir Hair Oil

I picked this up in Salon Services ages ago but have only really started to use it now.  It’s a hair oil that you massage into your locks when wet and then blowdry as normal.  You can also use it on dry hair to tame frizzies.  I love the smell of this, it’s so nice and when you apply it, your hair doesn’t become oily or greasy at all.  Plus it leaves your hair looking super shiny.  You can also get this on

No7 Eyeshadow – Truffle

I got this in a goodie bag at the Cocoa Brown Lovely Ladies Afternon Tea a couple of weeks ago and I am really loving it.  It’s a gorgeous browny gold colour that blends really well and would suit all eye colours but is especially striking on blue eyed girls.  It’s been my go-to eyeshadow for work since and it just looks so nice swept all over the lid or just blended into your crease with a lighter beige colour on the lid.  No7 have had a bit of a revamp recently and I’m loving their slick new chrome packaging!  Available from all Boots Stores.

Left to Right: The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser, The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion; The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream

I reviewed these skincare products from Soap & Glory here a few weeks ago (here) and my skin has been getting on great since using them, so definitely going to repurchase.  The Soap & Glory range is available in Boots.

MAC Nymphette Lipgloss

I’ve been using this on clients a lot lately.  It’s the most beautiful pink lipgloss shot through with little gold particles that shimmer in the light (so great for going out) and it looks so nice over a pale pink lipstick like MAC’s Angel or Crème Cup.  Gorgeous.  You can pick this up in any MAC store.

Cocoa Brown Tan & Tough Stuff Scrub by Marissa Carter

I reviewed this here and also the new Tough Stuff scrub here.  Both are fantastic products.  I really love the tan and find that once you prep your skin well it turns out with the same even results you‘d get from a spray tan.  Definitely the best tan I’ve used.  Also the scrub is amazing and does a great job of sloughing off the dead skin.  I reckon there’s more to it than just the little scrubby bits though, so I quizzed Marissa Carter about it at the Lovely Ladies Afternoon Tea that she put on for us bloggers recently, but unfortunately (& understandably!) she was giving nothing away 🙂  Anyway, whatever the secret ingredient is, it really works! Available from Penneys, Boots and large Pharmacies.

The Cosmetic Outlet

I had long been avoiding this place as I knew I’d spend a fortune if I went in!  If you like The Cosmetic Outlet on Facebook, you’ll know it’s full of bargains on top branded makeup and beauty products such as GOSH, IsaDora, MAC, Clarins and more, it really is a makeup & beauty lovers paradise!  Kinda like Irelands answer to Sephora, with all your beauty faves in one place – what’s not to love? 🙂 Plus €5 for Sally Hansen tan just can’t be beaten!  They also do “Fiver Friday” deals so pop in and have a look.  I am currently testing a line of cosmetics that they stock there called Flormar and I have to say I’m well impressed with them.  Watch out for a full review coming later!  You’ll find the Cosmetic Outlet in Meath Street , Dublin.

GOSH Cosmetics Review & Makeup Looks

Recently, I was very kindly sent some makeup from GOSH Cosmetics to try out and review.  I am already a fan of GOSH Cosmetics and have some of their stuff in my kit, my favourite being their Silicone Primer (which is a great dupe for the Smashbox one) and Brow Palette.  I have to say I was very impressed with what I got.  GOSH Cosmetics is a Denmark-based cosmetics company and you’ll find them in some of your local pharmacies.  They have a wide array of makeup from eyeshadow palettes to lipsticks, liners, glosses and mascaras.  All with matte, shine, shimmer and glitter finishes in all the latest colours so you can keep up with trends without spending too much.  As far as price goes, GOSH would be at the higher end of the pharmacy brand prices but the quality of their makeup is excellent so you do get what you pay for.

So onto the products:

GOSH Cosmetics
GOSH Cosmetics

I received (L-R) BB Cream, Velvet Touch Lipstick, Catchy Eyes Mascara and the Smokey Eyes Palette (excuse the fingerprint marks!  I had a good maul of this before I reviewed it and then couldn’t get them off!)

BB Cream 02 Beige €12.45

I’m a big fan of BB Creams and this one didn’t disappoint at all and has actually taken its place in my makeup bag as my go-to foundation for everyday use.  I love the creamy texture of this and how it gives such great coverage for a BB cream, as well as feeling so moisturising on your skin.  It also has an SPF of 15.  This really lasts well during the day too and gives a beautiful dewy finish to your makeup.

Velvet Touch Lipstick – 43 Tropical Pink €8.05

Personally, frosted shocking pink lipstick is not really my thing 🙂 but despite that, there’s no denying what a good lippie this is.  It has a long lasting formula but it doesn’t dry your lips out and it comes in lots of different colours so there’s one to suit everyone.  I’ve tried this on a younger client and it was absolutely perfect for her, she really loved it.  If you’re looking for a nice long wearing lipstick for a night out that won’t dry your lips and requires minimum touch-ups, then this is the one for you.

Smokey Eyes Palette – 04 Blue €10.95

This is a palette of 4 eyeshadows from light bluey grey to mid tone greys to dark charcoal colours, all in a satin or matte finish.  It has a plastic overlay with a diagram to show you where you should apply each colour so it’s pretty foolproof.  The quality of these shadows is very good and I was quite surprised considering its not a high end brand.  The colours blend together well, are not at all chalky and have great colour payoff so I’ll be stocking up on a few more of these for my kit.  You could wear this toned down for daytime or totally smoked up for night so it’s a very versatile palette.  Loving it 🙂

GOSH Smokey Eyes Palette

Catchy Eyes Mascara – Black €7.05

This is a really nice mascara and gives great length to your lashes as you can see in the pic below.  It has a rubber bristled wand with a curve in it that gently curls your lashes for a wide eyed look.  This lasted really well and didn’t flake off and for the price, it’s one I’d really recommend you pick up.

Here is a pic of me wearing all the products mentioned for a more daytime look:

I also used them (along with other products) on a client of mine for a night out which resulted in a smokier look:

Vaseline Spray & Go Body Moisturiser Review

One beauty related thing I hate doing is applying body moisturiser, it just takes so long! I ain’t got time to stand there covering every inch of my body in lotion then waiting for it to sink in so I can get dressed. Luckily Vaseline felt my pain and have brought out a new spray body Moisturiser which is a pretty genius idea!

Cocoa Radiant
Cocoa Radiant

The one I got was “Cocoa Radiant” and I’m really liking it. You press the nozzle and out comes a continuous fine mist of the moisturiser which is distributed evenly all over your bod. You can turn the bottle any which way and it’ll still spray AND you can get hard to reach, often neglected areas like your back.

You do have to pat the moisturiser into your skin afterwards but that doesn’t take long so it still saves you time. It contains Cocoa Butter, smells like chocolate (that alone is reason to buy it!) and the smell lingers all day. Plus your skin feels well moisturised and looks radiant but doesn’t feel a bit sticky or greasy so you can get dressed straight away.

There are a couple of downsides though:

  • You have to put a large towel down on the floor underneath you or the spray will get all over it and if you’ve got wooden or tiled floors this is not good believe me! I nearly went skiing a few times before realising this!
  • Although the spray can looks big (it’s 190ml), it really doesn’t last very long. I only got 2 weeks out of mine which was disappointing.  That’s down to the continuous spray action when you apply it. Because it sprays everywhere and not just on your skin, a lot of the product is wasted, which is a shame.

There are 2 other types in the range, Essential Moisture with Pure Oat Extract and Aloe Fresh with Aloe Vera (so really soothing for the skin) and they cost €6.15 from Boots and other Pharmacies.

Despite my gripes, I have to say that this is a really good moisturiser and I would probably purchase again and just use when I’m in a hurry ‘cos it’s perfect for that.

What do you think of this?  Also is there anything beauty related that you just hate doing?

Soap & Glory Skincare Review (for Oily/combo skin)

Although I have some skincare brands I swear by, I still like to change up my skincare products every now and then.  I had heard lots of good things about the Soap & Glory skincare range so decided to try them out for myself.  I have oily/combo skin so I got the following:

Left to Right: The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser, The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion; The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream
Left to Right: The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser, The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion; The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream
Handy Squeezy Tubes
Handy Squeezy Tubes

They all came in a squeezy tube which was handy for dispensing just the right amount and keeping things nice and hygienic (no dipping your fingers in to get the product out), so these would be perfect for a Makeup Artists kit.

The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser €16

This is the same principal as the Eve Lom or Liz Earles hot cloth cleanser only a lot cheaper!  It comes with a muslin cloth and you just slather it on your skin and then rinse the cloth in warm water and use it to remove the product from your face and neck area.

The minute I put this on I noticed the fantastic smell which really reminded me of Yonka cleansers since they use essential oils and nourishing ingredients like Provitamin B5, Sweet Almond, Orange & Lavender Oils.  My skin felt so clean but without feeling tight or stripping away the natural oils and I could literally feel my makeup melting off.  Even my waterproof mascara came right off with no bother at all.

Suitable for all skin types, this would be great for dry or oily skin and will take away every last bit of residue without drying out skin and also slighly exfoliates because you’re using the Muslin Cloth.  Great for people who wear makeup daily like me so I’m liking this!

The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion €14

This mosituriser is specifically for oily/combo skin and it also make pores appear less visable.  I’ve been using this for a while now and I find it really good, it gives just the right amount of moisture without making my skin look like an oil slick!

The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream €16

This is a great every day moisturiser and the fact that it has an SPF of 25 is a big plus for me.  It’s not thick and gloopy and doesn’t “sit” on your skin, just sinks in nicely.  Apply it to your face and neck (our poor necks always get neglected and they need moistursation and protection from the sun too to avoid the dreaded Deirdre Barlow turkey neck!)  You can use this over your regular moisturiser or in place of it.

Soap & Glory have a great range of skincare for all skin types and I also love their bodycare range so check them out next time you’re in Boots.  I’m only raging that I never picked up their huge box of stuff that they had for sale at Christmas last year 😦  but I’ll be watching out for that again!  They’ve definitely got a new fan!

Do you like Soap & Glory products?  Tell me your faves in the comments!

Cocoa Brown – Tough Stuff Review

I couldn’t live without my fake tan but it’s such a pain to get it off sometimes, especially in areas where skin is hard.  But fear not, Cocoa Brown have just released “Tough Stuff ” which is a no nonsense scrub for removing stubborn false tan from tough, hard skin areas such as hands, feet, knees and elbows.  This is new to the range of Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter products which includes their hugely popular fake tan that I also reviewed here.

Tough Stuff Scrub by Cocoa Brown

You can also use it to exfoliate these areas in preparation for tan application so your skin will be silky smooth and the tan will just glide on.  I decided to put it to the test myself!  I had week old fake tan gathering on my elbows and despite scrubbing with my regular scrub and a pair of exfoliating gloves, I just couldn’t shift it all.  So, before my shower I used it on my dry skin and gave it a good scrub.  The consistancy is really grainy and the colour is bright pink!  It also smells quite pleasant.

Close up Consistancy

Well, I’ll say no more ‘cos these pictures speak for themselves:

Top, Before: Manky fake tan ridden elbows Bottom, After: Smooth as a baby's bum!
Top, Before: Manky fake tan ridden elbows
Bottom, After: Smooth as a baby’s bum!

Pretty gross I know, (I blame “planking” at bootcamp!) but it did the job and got rid of every last bit of dry fake tanned skin so I’m very impressed.  This sample was sent to me to try but I will be repurchasing myself as it’s an absolute must if you wear fake tan and certainly lives up to it’s name!

The sachets are great but it would be even better if they brought this out in a container with a pump dispenser or in a tub as it would be less messy and slightly easier to use in the shower.  Despite that it’s a great product and I’d highly recommend it to all you fake tan lovers.

You can get this in most chemists and at Pennys (Primark) or Boots and also on the Feel Unique website for anyone in the UK and it costs €2.99

What do you think of this?  Will you give it a try?

Makeup Tips for Teenagers & Perfect Makeup for Debs/Prom

When it comes to wearing makeup when you’re a teenager, you have you pick of looks to choose from since your skin is young and you can get away with wearing little makeup or going all out for a really glam look.  I’ve put together a few examples of looks I’ve done on my teen clients which would be great for either everyday wear or for a Debs/Prom as well as some general tips for wearing makeup.

Foundation Tips for Problem Skin

If you suffer with Acne, you don’t have to cake your face in thick liquid or cream foundation to cover it.  The key to a flawless natural look is to wear a light foundation or BB cream and get a good concealer to go over any red areas or spots.  Even if you suffer from Acne you can cover your spots without trowelling on the slap.

I did this look for Claire to show her how to cover her skin in a natural way.  She is a beautiful girl but wanted to feel a bit more confident with her skin so I covered her skin with MAC’s Face and Body which is a really light foundation and then spot concealed with my concealer kit from Makeup forever (Catrice do a cheaper version of this also) and you just use a pointed concealer brush to go lightly over each spot then powder over lightly to set.  I kept the rest of her makeup really natural with just a light wash of shadow and some liner, mascara and a smudge of lipgloss.

Then for a night out for her graduation we did a gorgeous Cranberry/Purple look which made her beautiful Green eyes pop! Claires eyebrows are the perfect shape so I just brushed through with a brown powder shadow which looks much more natural than those drawn on black eyebrows I’ve seen lots of girls wearing!

A defined eyebrow looks fab and really frames your face but these drawn on “check marks” on your face are far from a good look!  If you’re not sure what to do with your brows there are plenty of tutorials for filling in eyebrows on Youtube so check them out and get yourself a good angle brush and brow palette.  I love the one from GOSH cosmetics.

For Laura I also did a natural look which I used a bronzy brown liner to compliment the light colour of her eyes and she looked really stunning.  This would be perfect for wearing at the weekend or even on a night out.

Then for a more glam look, we went for a more dramatic but pretty glitter eye which would be perfect for a Debs and was quick and easy to do!  We went for a nude lip which is always best if you’ve got loads going on with the eyes.

Of course if you want to go all out and try something really different that looks great too.  For Kristina I did this really dramatic Metallic Winged Eyeshadow look using Black and gold eyeshadows from the Urban Decay Naked Palette as well as some Silver eyeshadow on her inner corner, I just intensified them by applying with a wet brush.

Also for a Debs/Prom you can’t go wrong with a classic “Red Carpet” look of light eyeshadow with winged liner and a Red lip.  That looks really fab for a night out also.

Here are some of my fave celeb Red Carpet looks which would be perfect for a Debs/Prom.
