My current Makeup Routine / Makeup in a hurry

My go-to Makeup!
My go-to Makeup!

Inspired by the fact that I just don’t have as much time as I used to for applying makeup, I decided to share my makeup routine with you and the products I am using a lot lately 🙂  This is a great look for if you want to look bright and glowing or just presentable for work and you don’t have much time.

Also, because the real trick to applying makeup is the tools you use – your brushes – I’ve listed just a few of my faves and why I love them for super quick but precise makeup application.

It might seem like a lot of products and steps but I promise you I have this down to literally, 5 minutes so with practice and the right tools, it can be done!  Of course you can swap some products for ones you already have or leave some out that you definitely wouldn’t use but here’s what I use and how I apply it:

Using these products together will give you a lovely glow and hide any dark circles or signs of tiredness!

1. Apply a thin layer of Boots Botanics Radiance Balm to your face using your fingers, this gives a lovely glow to your skin.

2. Right now I’m loving BB creams because when the weather is a bit warmer they also double up as sunscreen and this Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector is my favourite since it is an oil free formula (I have oily/combo skin but they also do a hydrating one for dry skin) & it has an SPF of 20 which is great.  Of course you can use your regular foundation too if you’d prefer and mix it with the radiance balm for a dewy finish.  Just apply with your fingers for a quick application or a foundation brush if you have a bit more time.

3. Dab some Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in a semi-circle under your eyes and using your ring finger, pat it in gently and evenly from the corner of your nose to the outside of your cheekbone.  This one is great for reflecting light and brightening up your under eye area.

4. Lightly load your powder brush with Catrice All Matt Plus Powder and dust gently down your T-Zone only as you don’t want the skin to have a matte finish, it needs to have a glow but ensure your base lasts the day.  Give a quick swipe under each eye to set your concealer too.

5. This is optional, but if you want you can use a bronzer lightly all over the face or on your neck to blend the foundation to your skin.  Also if you like a bit of contouring this Bourjois Mat Illusion bronzer is perfect for that and looks really natural, this one is a definite favourite of mine 🙂

1. This Smashbox Full Exposure Palette is a great one to have for doing your makeup in a hurry.  It has every neutral brown colour you could possibly need and the brush that comes with it is just fantastic, you will get great use from it which is a bonus!  I mostly use the first 3 colours on the bottom and I add the top middle colour to my lids for a bit of shimmer!  Also, when applied with an angle brush (like the one in the Real Techniques kit below) you can use the matte black shade as an eyeliner, you just literally press it along the lashline with the angle brush and it’s much easier than using a pencil I find.  You can also wet the brush for more intensity and staying power.  I love, love LOVE this versatile palette 🙂

2. If you’re not too confident with eyeshadow or just want something super quick, you can’t go wrong with a MAC Paintpot.  There is a good range of colours and you can literally pop them on with your finger and blend away the edges, job done!  I know they are pricey, but they’re worth it cos they last and don’t crease like some others.

3.  Eyebrows are really important to your overall makeup so if you don’t usually make time to enhance and define your eyebrows, try it and it will transform  your face, I promise!  The GOSH Eyebrow Kit is perfect because it comes with 4 powder shades and a small angle brush, just pop a bit on the brush and run through your brows following your natural shape.

4. Obviously mascara is a must-have and this Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume one is great it really does give your lashes volume and 1 application is enough.  This is one I always repurchase every time I run out!

1.  This Stila Convertable Colour is a great 2 in 1 product.  You can apply it on your cheeks (just pop on the colour and pat, don’t rub, gently with your finger to blend) and also to your lips and I love the range of colours!

2. I really rate the Topshop range of makeup and their Highlighters are to die for!  This Topshop Glow Stick highligher crayon is amazing and it blends really well.  Just swipe it lightly from the top of your cheekbones up to your browbone (in a C shape) and tap with your index finger to blend.  You can also take some on your ring finger and pop it on your inner tear duct area to give you a lovely wide awake look (perfect for busy Mammies!)4

1. As I said, no makeup look will be perfected without the right tools so for eyes, I love the Inglot 4ss for blending everything out after you’ve applied your eyeshadow, this is the secret to a  professional look in a hurry!

2. I use the NIMA BRUSH “Nichola” brush when I want to apply colour to my crease as its tapered end is perfect and applies the colour exactly where you want it to go.

3. If you’re looking for a basic brush kit, you can’t go wrong with this Real Techniques Basics Kit it has a great angle brush as well as eyeshadow brushes that can be used on powder or cream products.

4. The Blank Canvas G25 powder brush is perfect for dusting setting powder or bronzer all over.  If you’re really in a hurry and prefer to use powder blush, you can apply just using the tip as it’s quite a big brush.

So there you go, I hope this was helpful 🙂 If you try it out please let me know here or on any of my social media pages, I’d love to see it.

Christmas Cranberry Makeup Tutorial

So… I decided to bite the bullet and do another Youtube Video 🙂  This time I did a tutorial showing how to do a Cranberry Smoky Eye which would be perfect for wearing out over the Christmas Holidays.

I am just learning about how to edit videos so you’ll have to forgive me if it’s sloppy in places but I will improve over time I’m sure.  My daughter is really into photography so I borrowed her Canon camera to record this and it really makes all the difference!

Keep an eye out for more videos coming soon 🙂

August Makeup & Beauty Favorites

Here are the beauty faves I’ve been loving and using regularly in August 🙂

Orifluido Beauty Elixir Hair Oil

I picked this up in Salon Services ages ago but have only really started to use it now.  It’s a hair oil that you massage into your locks when wet and then blowdry as normal.  You can also use it on dry hair to tame frizzies.  I love the smell of this, it’s so nice and when you apply it, your hair doesn’t become oily or greasy at all.  Plus it leaves your hair looking super shiny.  You can also get this on

No7 Eyeshadow – Truffle

I got this in a goodie bag at the Cocoa Brown Lovely Ladies Afternon Tea a couple of weeks ago and I am really loving it.  It’s a gorgeous browny gold colour that blends really well and would suit all eye colours but is especially striking on blue eyed girls.  It’s been my go-to eyeshadow for work since and it just looks so nice swept all over the lid or just blended into your crease with a lighter beige colour on the lid.  No7 have had a bit of a revamp recently and I’m loving their slick new chrome packaging!  Available from all Boots Stores.

Soap & Glory skincare

Left to Right: The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser, The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion; The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream
Left to Right: The Ultimelt Hot Cloth Cleanser, The Fab Pore Daily Micro Smoothing Moisture Lotion; The Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream

I reviewed these skincare products from Soap & Glory here a few weeks ago (here) and my skin has been getting on great since using them, so definitely going to repurchase.  The Soap & Glory range is available in Boots.

MAC Nymphette Lipgloss

I’ve been using this on clients a lot lately.  It’s the most beautiful pink lipgloss shot through with little gold particles that shimmer in the light (so great for going out) and it looks so nice over a pale pink lipstick like MAC’s Angel or Crème Cup.  Gorgeous.  You can pick this up in any MAC store.

Cocoa Brown Tan & Tough Stuff Scrub by Marissa Carter

I reviewed this here and also the new Tough Stuff scrub here.  Both are fantastic products.  I really love the tan and find that once you prep your skin well it turns out with the same even results you‘d get from a spray tan.  Definitely the best tan I’ve used.  Also the scrub is amazing and does a great job of sloughing off the dead skin.  I reckon there’s more to it than just the little scrubby bits though, so I quizzed Marissa Carter about it at the Lovely Ladies Afternoon Tea that she put on for us bloggers recently, but unfortunately (& understandably!) she was giving nothing away 🙂  Anyway, whatever the secret ingredient is, it really works! Available from Penneys, Boots and large Pharmacies.

The Cosmetic Outlet

I had long been avoiding this place as I knew I’d spend a fortune if I went in!  If you like The Cosmetic Outlet on Facebook, you’ll know it’s full of bargains on top branded makeup and beauty products such as GOSH, IsaDora, MAC, Clarins and more, it really is a makeup & beauty lovers paradise!  Kinda like Irelands answer to Sephora, with all your beauty faves in one place – what’s not to love? 🙂 Plus €5 for Sally Hansen tan just can’t be beaten!  They also do “Fiver Friday” deals so pop in and have a look.  I am currently testing a line of cosmetics that they stock there called Flormar and I have to say I’m well impressed with them.  Watch out for a full review coming later!  You’ll find the Cosmetic Outlet in Meath Street , Dublin.

Christmas Party/New Years Eve Makeup

There’s no time like Christmas/New Years Eve to bring out the sparkle so this makeup tutorial will add a bit of bling to any party look.  I did a glitter/brown eye with glossy wine lips that’s just perfect for the party season.  If you prefer to just play up the eyes, you can also wear a nude coloured lippie with this that will look equally as fab

Christmas Party Look

Here is the same look with a nude lip:

Gold Glitter makeup

These are the products I used:

Foundation:  Bourjois Healthy Mix

Concealer: MAC Select Cover up concealer which is great for the under eye area as its got a lovely creamy consistency

Blush: Inglot AMC Face Blush in 87 which is a lovely liquid blush that gives a beautiful glow to your skin

Eyes step by step:

  • First I applied Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo cream eyeshadow in Eternal Gold all over my eyelid
  • I then took Collection 2000 Glam Crystals glitter eyeliner in 03 Funk (a gorgeous gold glitter) and applied it all over my eyelid up to just before the crease of my eyelid for an amazing sparkly look
  • Then I shaded in the crease with a mixture of Kid and Cork Eyeshadows from MAC
  • I lined my eyes with Maybelline Eye Studio black Gel Eyeliner which I winged out for a more dramatic effect
  • Finally I applied Benefit They’re Real! Mascara to my top and bottom lashes and for even more glamour, I added false lashes 🙂

The great thing about using the glitter eyeliner rather than loose glitter is that it stays put and doesn’t end up all over your face the way the loose glitter does and although Collection 2000 is a budget brand their glitter eyeliners (which don’t have to be used as eyeliners!) are such good quality and they’re only €3.49 so you can pick up a few colours and use them in the same way as above using matching coloured cream eyeshadow underneath.

Moving onto the lips, I used the following for the Wine lip:

MAC wine lips

  • I lined the lip in with Rimmel 1000 kisses lipliner in 063 Black Tulip
  • Then I went over this with MAC Cremesheen Glass in Colour Saturation from the Christmas lipgloss collection

For the Nude lip this is what I used:

Nude lipstick

  • First I lined my lips with Boots No7 Lipliner in Nude
  • I then applied Rimmel Kate Moss Collection lipstick in 03 which is just the perfect Nude shade
  • I then applied NARS Lipgloss in Orgasm which is a lovely Nudey-coral colour with a gold shimmer to it but you can leave this out or use a clear gloss if you want.

And that’s your party makeup done!  Will you try this look?  What kind of makeup do you think is perfect for the party season?  Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Oh and please excuse the state of my eyebrows, I left it too close to Christmas to book in for a wax and this is the result unfortunately :-/ will probably have to do a quick pluck myself til I can get an appointment at my regular Salon but that’s never the same as a good wax!

MAC Holiday Collection 2012 Review

I went into MAC yesterday to have a look at the new holiday makeup collections and I can confirm that they really are fabulous!  I have to say that this is, without a doubt, the nicest collection that MAC has  brought out yet.  The packaging is to die for obviously but the colour combos are gorgeous and they’re all very wearable too. I wanted the lot, it was so hard to choose my 2 faves but I managed to do that and here they are:

MAC Guilty Passions Lavish Rose Lipgloss Sets €37

They come in 4 different colours, from top to bottom, below:

  • Demure
  • Going Casual
  • Colour Saturation
  • Boys Go Crazy

And here are the swatches to show what they look like on

These are lovely colours that feel as well as look great on.  I would wear the first two during the day and the second two going out at night.
Fabulousness Smoky Eyes Palette €49

There’s 5 shades in this palette and they are, from left to right in the swatches below:

  • Taupeless
  • Satin Taupe
  • Lovespice
  • Spellcaster
  • Blackslip

These are a mix of pinks and purples, my favourite is the first one, which doesn’t show up too well in this photo but it’s a lovely iridescent pink and the last one which is a lovely smoky purple which is a great alternative to black for a smoky eye.  The second last colour is a matte purple but as you can see in the swatch above it doesn’t blend very well so you have to pack it on or else it would work great as a liner.  Overall though it’s a lovely palette and again has really wearable colours that can be worn in the day or at night.

These are great sets that will make any Friend/Sister/Mother/Daughter/Cousin/Girlfriend/Wife very happy to open on Christmas morning.  They are available  in Brown Thomas stores nationwide, so get down there and treat  yourself to a nice early Christmas Prezzie!

Coral & Brown Makeup Look

Everyone needs a bit of colour in their lives and this is one of my favourite makeup looks for adding a pop of colour so I thought I’d show you what I used to achieve this look.  I love corals and browns, the two colours go so well together and if you’re brunette and blue or green-eyed, this will be a lovely look for you.  You might think using coral coloured eyeshadow, blush and lipstick is a bit much but it actually works well and gives a glowing, healthy look.  I always get compliments when I wear this look!

Here’s the makeup I used to get this look

  • Bourjois Heathy Mix Foundation (my favourite foundation at the moment!)
  • MAC Blot Powder
  • MAC Casual Colour Creme in “Out for Fun”
  • NARS Blush in Orgasm
  • Catrice Made To Stay Creme Eyeshadow in a light gold colour #45 (for highlighting the inner corner of the eye)
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Black
  • Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Black
  • Inglot Lipliner in #71
  • Barry M Lipstick in #151

The eyeshadows I used were by MAC:

From the top left:

  • Ricepaper – highlight colour
  • Cork – in crease
  • Paradisco – coral colour on lid. It’s a really beautiful colour, this pic doesn’t do it justice at all!
  • Handwritten – Outer corner dark brown colour

I slightly winged the gel eyeliner but you don’t have to do that if you’re not too confident with it. You could always use a neutral lip colour too, that would look equally fab!

What do you think of this look?  Will you try it?  Let me know in the comments below 🙂
